After a week of intense competition, three VICTOR star players/pairs made it to the finals at the Denmark Open. In their first tournament outing, the ROK’s Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong, ended the record of 19 win a row in Super Series matches of Ahsan/Setiawan, the world champions, taking the men’s doubles title in straight games. In the final of the mixed doubles, “Indonesian lightning” Ahmad/Natsir took silver, as did Sung Ji Hyun of the ROK in the women’s singles.

Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong take Denmark by storm
Current ROK team captain Yoo Yeon Seong took the men’s doubles title at the Demark Open last year with partner Shin Baek Choel. This year his partner was Lee Yong Dae. They dropped a game in the first round, but went on to record 10 game wins in a row to take them to the finals. They were even able to beat Indonesian pair Ahsan/Setiawan, a pair who have been in great form this year, to take the title.
After the match Lee said Yoo’s speed and power are both outstanding and he feels very good playing with him. It seems that Lee/Yoo have had no trouble getting used to playing with each other and hit it off on court immediately!
Errors cost Ahmad/Natsir the match
In the mixed doubles, after disposing of world No.1 pair Xu Chen/Ma Jin in the semifinals “Indonesian lightning” Ahmad/Natsir were up against the winners of the gold medal at the London Olympics, China’s Zhang Nan/Zhao Yun Lei.
Ahmad/Natsir hold the All-England and Badminton World Championship mixed doubles titles but were well out of sorts in the first game of the final yesterday. After building an 8-5 lead they then lost 12 points in a row to the Chinese pair and went one game down. They came out for the second game in a more focused state of mind and had a chance to take the game at 20-17 to take the match to a deciding third game but, then surprisingly, again made a series of errors, dropping five points in succession to hand the match to Zhang/Zhao.
Wang Yi Han comes from behind to win beautifully
ROK star Sung Ji Hyun came very close to beating China’s Wang Yi Han in the women’s singles final. In the second half of the first game Sung took 12 points to Wang’s 1 to take the game. Wang came out for the second game showing admirable fighting spirit and was able to take the second game by making a series of return shots of great difficulty and playing a succession of tricky shots along the side lines. In the deciding game, Sung took a 17-13 lead but was forced by Wang’s clever play in front of the net to repeatedly hit the shuttlecock into the air, putting her in a passive position time and time again. In the end Wang took the game to take the match 21-16, 18-21, 20-22.
The runner-up of Denmark Open 2013 - Sung Ji Hyun
In the men’s singles “Badminton King” Lee Chong Wei was no match on the day for the attacking play of China’s Chen Long but went down fighting 24-22,21-19. In the final of the women’s doubles, China’s Bao Yi Xin/Tang Jin Hua were up against local girls Christinna/Kamilla. Bao/Tang put in a flawless show throughout the match and took it 21-16、21-13 without giving the Danes any chance at all, leaving the home fans disappointed.
